The 75km of coastline that lies to the west of
Port Alfred is amongst the most alluring in the country, with wild and rural landscapes backing broad sand-dune beaches between glorious river mouths.
The most interesting accommodation options are
Sibuya Forest Camp and
Sibuya River Camp on a pretty little wildlife reserve which is accessed by boat from Kenton-on-Sea.
A little to the north is the much larger wildlife reserve of Kariega, which has free-roaming elephants, rhinos and lions. Our favourite accommodation here is the quaint
Kariega Homestead.
Further west is the rural retreat of
Sebumo Tude, a great lower cost base for daytrips along the coast.
The pretty seaside village of Kenton-on-Sea has a range of beach accommodation. The best at-home guesthouse is probably
River Roost, whilst
Oyster Box is certainly one of the best house rentals.
