Pangani
is a small town on the northern coast of Tanzania.
Until recently this beautiful stretch of the mainland coast attracted very few international travellers, but better flight connections and the emergence of some decent lodges has seen the area emerge as a more laid back and lower cost alternative to
Zanzibar.
The leading lodge in the area is
The Tides, which is genuinely high quality, followed by the slightly lower cost
Emayani Beach Lodge.
The town of
Tanga is a pleasantly laid back place, interesting to explore, but not somewhere many international travellers choose to stay.
Further north the coast is genuinely remote and the one decent lodge,
Fish Eagle Point, really is an interesting alternative for people really trying to get off the beaten track.
