The Residence Zanzibar is located 3km north of the village of Kizimkazi Dimbani on the southwest coast of Zanzibar.
Remotely located at the back of a large tidal beach, this large and rather upmarket resort complex has sister facilities in Mauritius, Maldives and Tunis.
There are 66 guest villas in several price categories, each of which are very well fitted out, including television, aircon and a substantial private pool. The central area has a much larger pool, with restaurant alongside, whilst the beach boasts an long jetty. There is also an extensive spa and gym.
The Residence Zanzibar is a genuine five star facility. It has a distinctly futuristic feel, with guests and staff drifting silently around a mildly modernist tropical suburbia on golf carts and bicycles.
As you can tell from our imagery, the place may not quite live up to the gloss of the brochure, but it is definitely a contender for the most upmarket resort on the island, along with Baraza over on the southeast coast.
