Ngare Sero Lodge is located around 20km to the east of the town of Arusha in northern Tanzania.
Set in a superb rural location on the forested lower slopes of Mount Meru, this beautiful and historic farmhouse was once home to the Von Trappe family of The Sound of Music fame.
From the vehicle turnaround one first crosses a quaint footbridge over a trout lake before climbing through beautiful tropical gardens to lodge. The glorious farmhouse contains lovely public areas downstairs plus some modest bedrooms upstairs. Most of the guest rooms are located in rather less attractive annexe to the rear, one of a number of rather less attractive elements which have been added to the estate in more recent years.
Whilst there is no doubt that Ngare Sero Lodge has the potential to be a truly outstanding small lodge, at the moment it is probably only suited to travellers who will really appreciate the authentic elements.
