is a typically scruffy little town set amongst some spectacular mountain scenery in the extreme southwest of Uganda
There is little in the town itself of interest to most travellers, except perhaps for the large and colourful market.
In town Kisoro Travellers Rest
is a pleasant and historic small hotel.
Amongst the spectacular mountain backdrop to the southwest lies Mgahinga National Park
. Although the park does contain mountain gorillas, the one habituated family migrates back and forth to Rwanda and Congo.
The best place to stay up here is the pricey but pleasant Mount Gahinga Lodge
, which was built as a base for gorilla tracking, but which is now more focussed on generalised trekking in the spectacular volcanic scenery.
