Agulhas and Arniston
is located on the Whale Coast
in the Western Cape
of South Africa
Arniston is a remote and relatively undeveloped coastal settlement, famed for its broad sandy beaches, large sea cave and the simple fishing cottages of Kassiesbaai.
The village is dominated by the decent but overlarge Arniston Spa Hotel
, with a handful of smaller guesthouses offering more intimate accommodation options.
Cape Agulhas is the most southerly point on the continent and generally considered to be the meeting point of the Atlantic and Indian oceans. The settlements of Agulhas and Struisbaai stretch for 10km east of the cape lighthouse and are comprised largely of suburban streets of retirement and holiday homes. Not particularly attractive at all.
Although visitors are naturally drawn here by its geographical significance, we find the experience of visiting the Cape of Good Hope
much more enjoyable.
Very few of our guests tend to stay in either of these locations, although some pop into one or the other when doing the lovely back-road traverse from Stanford
to De Hoop
or vice versa.
