Ai Aiba Lodge
is located in the Erongo
area in the Western
region of Namibia
Set on the northern side of the Erongo Massif, 56km south of the C36 Omaruru to Uis road, this place is also known as The Rock Painting Lodge.
The situation is beautiful, being part of the greater Erongo Mountain Nature Conservancy and surrounded by fascinating rock kopjes which are littered with rock art and host a decent range of wildlife.
We arrived too late to go on the sundowner rock art excursion, but we did enjoy the 30 minute marked trail from the lodge.
The lodge is a very standard affair, with a caverous main building under thatch, fronted by a modest pool. The twenty guest rooms are built in pairs immediately below the main kopje and are very uninspiring.
Ai Aiba Lodge is one of the worst places we have stayed in Namibia, which is really saying something. The lodge management made no contact with us at all and the staff, whilst well-intentioned, were mostly way out of their depth. Seems to cater mainly for low-cost German bus tours.
Only worth considering when there is no availability at the much higher rated Erongo Wilderness Lodge
