Ai Ais Restcamp
also known as Ai Ais Hotsprings Spa
, is located in the Fish River Canyon
area in the Southern
region of Namibia
The name "Ai Ais" means "burning water" in the local Nama language, referring to the sodorous springs that rise from the base of the canyon at around 65C.
The parks authority restcamp here was opened in 1972. In recent years it has had a major facelift and evolved into more of a spa resort. There is a large outdoor pool and a very expensive spa facility. Guest accommodation is in 36 rooms and 7 chalets, serviced by a bar, restaurant and shop.
Apart from the obvious spa treatments, activities also include self-guided walking up the valley.
Ai Ais Restcamp is not somewhere which we find ourselves including in trips very often, the private lodges in the vicinity generally proving to be more popular.
