Amakhala Woodbury Lodge
is located the Shamwari area of the Eastern Cape region of South Africa.

+ large private wildlife reserve
+ significant conservation project
+ non-malarial
+ attractive landscapes
+ full range of wildlife
+ small intimate lodge
+ decent swimming pool
+ good range of activities
+ conservation centre
+ off-road driving

Situated on the Amakhala fenced reserve which runs alongside the N2 highway for around 15km, to an average depth of only 3km. It largely comprises reclaimed farmland and is reasonably well stocked with game.

Set around 1.5km south of the N2, but tucked into a quiet valley and enjoying broad views south and west, this refreshingly small and relatively simple camp has just six stone-built rooms, still with aircon mind you, plus modest public areas, a sandy-floored campfire area and a nice pool deck with broad views.

An unusually broad range of activities includes vehicle safari, walks, boating and canoeing, the latter being dependent upon their being water in the river, which often runs dry.

- safari here is relatively tame
- fenced reserve
- reclaimed farmland
- proximity of the main N2 highway
- proximity of human habitation
- lions enclosed in separate fenced area
- relatively simple accommodation

Amakhala Woodbury Lodge is a reasonable solution for people who do not want a decent safari experience but do not need the levels of expensive luxury that are offered elsewhere in the area.
