Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort and Spa
previously known as Indigo Bay Resort
, is located on Bazaruto Island in the Bazaruto
area in the Southern
region of Mozambique
This large commercial lodge is set on the southwest coast of the island, at the back of a broad sandy beach. Extensive public areas contain a range of lounge and dining areas, leading out to the main swimming pool and a further dining terrace above the beach. There are also a substantial gym and spa facilities. At the north end of the resort there is a large activity and watersports centre with another swimming pool, plus further bar and dining areas.
Guest accommodation is in a total of 44 rooms, which come in five different specifications ...
Beach Cabin: 29 : These rather modest rooms are closely packed along the front row and have a small private terrace and a nice shady sala down on the beach itself.
Honeymoon Beach Cabin : 1 : The same as the above but with the addition of a small plunge pool.
Luxury Bay View Villas : 12 : These rooms are much more modern and substantial, having being a later addition to the lodge and situated up the slope from the previous rooms, being access by golf carts. Each villa has two bedrooms, a large lounge, indoor and outdoor dining areas and a decent swimming pool. Meals can be served in the villa, so guests can enjoy complete privacy if they wish.
Executive Suite : 1 : Similar to the above, but with just the one bedroom.
Presidential Villa : 1 : Similar to the other villas, but slightly larger and more luxurious.
Activities include diving, snorkelling, water-skiing, dhow sailing, kayaking, wind-surfing, island tours, guided walking, village visits, beach and island picnics. There is also a substantial Kiddie Club with a range of specially designed activities for youngsters.
Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort is a reasonably pleasant and well run facility. We personally feel that it is let down quite badly by the architecture, but rescued by the excellent location, staff and activities. It is certainly a great deal less expensive than the truly top end options out on these islands.
Access is by means of a 45 minute motorboat transfer from the town of Vilanculos over on the mainland coast, which is directly connected by air with the Kruger area of South Africa. SeasonsPrices
