AndBeyond Kirkman's Camp
also known as Kirkman's Kamp
, is located in the Sabi Sand Reserve
in the Kruger
area to the Northeast
of South Africa
Situated on a promontory above a sweeping bend in the Sabi River, this wonderful 1920's homestead has been converted into an elegant safari retreat. Very colonial in style, public areas are contained within the original tin-roofed manor house, with a nice swimming pool area beyond. Guest accommodation is in eighteen rooms, in nine colonial style outbuildings. Service levels are extremely high and prices are relatively keen.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari and walking safari, with wildlife viewing in this Sabi Sand South area being very reliable year round. The lodge has traversing rights over around 70 square kilometres, including good access to both the Sabi and Sand rivers.
The main potential downsides are that the lodge is relatively large, it does not have that classic safari camp feel, the rooms are relatively functional and the potential for adverse weather conditions Nov/Mar. Also, as with almost all the lodges in this area, different groups of guests are joined together on safari activities, unless you pre-book a private vehicle at significant additional cost.
In Sabi Sand South the presence of fence lines, overhead telephone cables and road signs does detract significantly from the sense of wilderness, but that is true of almost all of Kruger.SeasonsPricesTrips
