Arathusa Safari Lodge
is located in the Sabi Sand Reserve
in the Kruger
area to the Northeast
of South Africa
Situated alongside a large dam, this substantial lodge is centred on public areas, with a range of different lounge and dining areas, leading out to a good-sized infinity swimming pool. There is also an outside dining boma and spa. Guest accommodation is in nine modest bungalows alongside the dam and four large suites with private pools rather remotely set amongst woodland beyond. The hosting is professional and the prices very keen for this area.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari and walking safari. Wildlife viewing in this Sabi Sand North area is reliable year round. The level of guiding here is usually strong.
The main potential downsides are the fact that the adjacent dam is man-made and the lodge itself is rather old-fashioned, being set in manicured gardens and very heavily built. There is the potential for adverse weather conditions Nov/Mar. Also, as with almost all the lodges in this area, different groups of guests are joined together on safari activities, unless you pre-book a private vehicle at significant additional cost.
In this Sabi Sand Central area the presence of fence lines, overhead telephone cables and road signs does detract significantly from the sense of wilderness, although that is true of almost all of Kruger.SeasonsPrices
