Arusha Safari Lodge
previously known as Safari Spa, is located in the Arusha area in the northern region of Tanzania.

This reasonable mid-range accommodation in a very pleasant semi-rural location around 7km to the east of town.

It sits on an large plot which is part of an old polo club. The main building is a converted homestead, containing comfortable lounge and dining areas, plus two guest rooms on the first floor. The seven guest cottages sit in vibrant tropical gardens around a central pool. There is also a modest spa building.

The lodge is reasonably convenient for Kilimanjaro International Airport and caters specifically for late arrivals, with a light evening meal.

The lodge is part of the Moivaro Lodges collection, which is owned by Dutchman Gijs de Raadt, a very friendly and rather eccentric chap who we are proud to have as a very close friend. He is utterly committed to providing gainful employment to as many Africans as he possibly can and runs his business accordingly. The quality and reliability of his properties may be quite variable, but his ethos is unshakeable.

We are particularly keen on the walking in the immediate area, there are some lovely volcanic foothills, shamba farms, coffee plantations and pretty villages to explore. Real Africa.

If there is one thing that annoys us above all else, it is places which call themselves "safari lodge" when they are not out in the bush. This can only lead to confusion.

The lodge offers relatively simple facilities and modest levels of service.

Some people might complain about the long bumpy access road, although it really isn't a big deal in the greater scheme of things.
