Augrabies Falls
is located in the Northwest of South Africa.

The Orange River, which rises in the highlands of Lesotho some 750km to the east, winds its way across the flatlands of the Kalahari before plunging down a chasm at the Augrabies Falls and continuing in a canyon to the Atlantic.

The national park continues either side of the downstream gorge, with a good range of semi-desert flora and fauna and some interesting multiple-day hiking trails.

Upstream the valley contains irrigated farmland, with a range of lodge options over the 35km stretch to the town of Kakamas ...

Dundi Lodge ... is a modern and relatively sophisticated place with ten guest suites.

Vergelegen Guesthouse ... is a pleasant traditional guesthouse overlooking the Orange River in the rural settlement of Lutzburg.

The falls themselves are close to the park entrance and main restcamp. Said to be one of five largest in the world, they certainly do not have the grandeur of Victoria Falls, but their remoteness and power are impressive.
