... is a small town that lies at the top of a pass down which the B4 highway heads on its way down to Luderitz, some 125km to the west.

The place owes its existence to the presence of the old coast to Keetmanshoop railway, starting out as a small one room station in the middle of nowhere.

The main points of interest in the area are the enormous desert landscapes, most notably in the Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park, where there are also renowned populations of wild desert horses.

The area also contains various historic remnants from the Second World War, including a significant cemetery.
