Beaufort West
is located in the Great Karoo area of the Western Cape of South Africa.

This pleasant if not wildly inspiring town is set in vast open semi-desert landscapes. The main reason to visit is as an overnight stop on the long drive down the N1 between Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Karoo National Park is of peripheral interest to most people, but if you fancy trying to spot the rare Cape mountain zebra or recently reintroduced black rhino, or to undertake one of the hiking or 4x4 trails.

Lemoenfontein Lodge ... is the best accommodation option in the area, a pleasant farmstead to the north of the town and nicely set back from the main highway.

Karoo Restcamp ... is a lower cost option inside the national park.
