Blyde Canyon Upper
is located in the Panorama
area of the Northeast
region in South Africa
This area includes one of the most impressive and scenic mountain drives in Africa. Heading north out of Graskop
, a loop road heads over to the main escarpment of the Mpumulanga Drakensberg, providing magnificent views east over the Lowveld and Kruger, notably The Pinnacle and God's Window. Back on the main road and a little further north are the views down into Bourke's Luck Potholes and finally The Three Rondavels. A remarkable sequence of sights, all within 50km of each other.
But this road is particularly thin on decent accommodation, so this drive is usually done by travelling between lodges in adjacent areas.
Continuing north, the road then undertakes the dramatic descent down to the Lowvelt at the foot of the mountains and theBlyde Canyon Lower
area, where there is a wider range of accommodation.Iketla Lodge
... is rather pleasant lodge, but lies a lot further west.
