Brandberg

...

... is a huge granite massif which stands clear of a broad plateau of Western Namibia, measuring over 30km in diameter and standing over 2500 metres high.

Brandberg contains a maze of hidden valleys which are littered with a wealth of Bushman rock-art sites, the most famous of which is the White Lady Cave, which can be reached on foot from the ranger post on the eastern side.

For the vast majority of visitors, Brandberg is just somewhere which flies by when driving past on the C35 between Swakopmund or Windhoek and Twyfelfontein.

For those interested in taking a slightly closer look, the D2303 and D2342 roads are usually well graded, providing a scenic alternative around Brandberg and on to the coast north of Cape Cross.

Hiking on Brandberg is exceptional and really quite extreme, being very hot, arid and requiring teams to be totally self-sufficient. We occasionally outfit guided expeditions on these trails, notably for military training purposes.

The functional mining town of Uis is worth stopping if you are interested in buying crystals and minerals from the street vendors.

Sorris Sorris Lodge ... is the stand-out accommodation option in the area.
