Cafema Valley Bivouac
is located in the Kaokaland West
area in the Northwest
region of Namibia
This camp is one of a handful of bivouac locations used on our Skeleton Coast Expeditions
, a family of private guided safaris though the remarkable wild landscapes of this fabulous corner of Namibia.
Cafema Valley Bivouac is usually the fifth stop on the expedition. It starts with several hours completing the epic two day crossing of the dune sea from the coast, before arriving at the impressive Bushman's Lookout, a cave-ridden hill with spectacular views down across the river and back across the dunes. From here we enter the awesome landscapes of the Cafema Valley area, with wildlife including oryx and springbok. In this area we can expect some significant cultural interaction with the local Himba tribespeople, who live a very authentic and simple tribal existence up here.
If access is possible, we overnight in a wonderful campsite down by the river at the bottom of the dunefield. Otherwise we will stay up in the high valleys above.
The previous stop is usually Kunene Dunes Bivouac
The next day either sees you depart by air from this remote spot or, more likely, start the long drive south towards civilisation, most likely to overnight in Okahirongo Elephant Lodge
, where the showers and other facilities will no doubt be highly appreciated.
