is located in the Cape Town
area of the Western Cape
region in South Africa
The area lying to the east of the M5 highway is a broad and generally windswept area of level ground known as the Cape Flats. During apartheid this area was the main residential district for black and coloured people and to this day this remains largely the case, a vast urban sprawl generally of lower cost housing and shanty towns.
The townships can be both uplifting and depressing. Certainly there is a vibrancy to the street life, but the levels of poverty do seem to be accentuated by their proximity to the exclusive residential suburbs which overlook from the western flanks of Table Mountain.
Although a number of township accommodation options do exist, at present we have none listed. Township tours are offered by various operators and can be good way to expand your understanding of the dynamics of the area.
The only accommodation option we do have are at Cape Town International Airport.
