The Central Province
of South Africa
largely corresponds with what is known locally as the Free State, but for convenience also incorporates other peripheral areas.
For most visitors this is an area to pass through rather that to stay in for any length of time, but there are some more alluring parts and a few places of significant special interest ...Kimberley
... was once the diamond capital of the world and remains a fascinating place for those interested in mining history. The Highlands Route
... is a scenic drive across the north of Lesotho, through the Golden Gate reserve and the rural towns of Clarens, Ficksburg and Ladybrand.Bloemfontein
are mildly interesting in their own rights, but are more generally used as transit stops.
We are very rarely asked to include this area in trips. When we are it tends to be for self-drivers who have been to South Africa at least once before and are now seeking out very specific new places to visit.
