Chobe Bush Lodge
is located close to the town of Kasane
in northern Botswana
This lodge is set on the western side of the town and offers decent lower cost accommodation largely to self-drivers and overlanders on the main Livingstone to Maun safari route.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari and motorboat safari, which are operated in the adjacent Chobe Northern Waterfront
area, where the wildlife viewing can be prodigious during the Jun/Oct dry season.
On the downside, this area experiences some of the worst safari traffic in Africa. The volume of vehicles lined up to get into the reserve each morning in high season can be very depressing andthe limited road network does little to disperse vehicles. The quality of the sightings can therefore be exceedingly poor.
It is a similar story out on the river, where the wonderful experience of watching families of elephants snorkelling through the water is often ruined by the uncontrolled motorboat traffic that emerges from Kasane.
We rarely recommend overnighting in Kasane, so do not tend to use this lodge very often.
For guests who particularly want to see the famous Chobe Northern Waterfront
, despite the heavy traffic, then we generally lean towards the simple but very high quality Chobe Under Canvas
deep within the park, the much more conventionally comfortable Chobe Game Lodge
or Chobe Chilwero
along the river just to the west of Kasane or the mid-range Muchenje Lodge
over on the quieter western end of the waterfront.
