Chundukwa Lodge

... is located in the Livingstone area of southern Zambia.

Situated on the north bank of the Zambezi river around 24km upstream from the Victoria Falls, this small lodge offers relatively simple accommodation, but in a very warm and hospitable environment.

Public areas and guest rooms are all set along the river bank, all very simple, but well presented and serviced.

Activities around the lodge include horse-back safari, motorboat safari and canoe safari, as well as fishing and visits to local villages.

Activities around the falls include a picnic on Livingstone Island including a swim in the Devil's Pool on the lip of the cascade, white-water rafting and jet-boating in the canyon below, bungee jumping and gorge swinging, elephant riding, walking with lions, town tours including the railway museum and scenic flights in a light aircraft, helicopter or microlight.

When to visit ...

Jul/Sep ... is generally considered to be the best season to visit this area, with the water flow over the falls and the quality of white-water rafting being generally favourable.

A few words about prices ...

We are specialists in helping our guests to build the very best and most suitable safaris for the lowest possible prices. A safari can be a very expensive undertaking and we always do everything we can to meet your target budget.

Further up this page you will see our guide price for this place. This is the high season rate per person per night sharing a double room. For most people this should represent a worst case scenario, since various discounts usually apply at other times of year.

We guarantee that the prices we charge will be the same or, more often than not, considerably less than if you were to book directly with the owner. We also guarantee to match or beat any legitimate competitive quotations. Additionally, all our itineraries have fully itemised pricing, so that you can see exactly how much each element costs, which should provide you with great reassurance and help you to make decisions when fine-tuning your trip.

How we like to include this lodge in trips ...

The Victoria Falls are one of the best known locations in Africa and they have an incredibly strong magnetic attraction to first time visitors to the continent. It really is quite remarkable.

Decent mid-priced accommodation is hard to find in this area and although being far from perfect, Chundukwa Lodge represents a pretty good alternative, backed up by good guest feedback. A reasonable alternative to the nearby Waterberry Lodge.

Livingstone is most commonly combined in trips with other popular safari areas around Zambia, including South Luangwa, Kafue and Lower Zambezi, in trips of 7 to 14 nights.

The area is also often commonly combined combined with parts of neighbouring Malawi, Zimbabwe and Botswana and South Africa in particular.

We are often asked to combine the falls with places as far flung as the gorillas in Rwanda and the safari in the Maasai Mara, which are 2000km and 2200km away. We can do it, but there can be quite a lot of really dull long-haul travel involved.

We usually prefer to put the falls section at the front end of a trip, it is a great place to get over your longhaul flights and gently slide into Africa, before heading out into the bush. We almost always recommend spending more time here than people expect, but are usually thanked afterwards. Some people simply fly in for one night in order to simply view the falls and move on, but the usual stay duration is 2 to 5 nights.
