Curieuse Island

...

... is situated 55km north of the international airport on Mahe and 2km west of Prasin in the Seychelles.

Measuring around 3km by 1km, this island was actually a leper colony right up until 1965. Only the doctor's house and some rubble remain.

These days the island and its waters form a marine park. The only human residents are rangers, who oversee a population of around 150 giant tortoises.

Curieuse makes for a popular destination for dive boats and day-trippers from Praslin.
