Elands Bay

... is located in the North of the Cape area in the Western Cape region of South Africa.

The two settlements of Elands Bay and Lambert's Bay lie some 80km north of the Paternoster and the last places of any significance on this desolate coastline until Port Nolloth, some 350km to the north.

Elands Bay is a small settlement divided by a river estuary, which inland broadens into an extensive wetland habitat. Popular with surfers, this small town has so far avoided heavy development and retains a nice laid back feel. There is some interesting rock art in caves amongst the sea cliffs.

Lambert's Bay is an important fishing port, not very scenic, but interesting nonetheless. The huge gannet colony on Bird Island can be reached via a causeway.

Vensterklip ... is the best accommodation option in the area, set inland from Elands Bay and overlooking the wetlands.
