Elephant Valley Lodge
is located close to the town of Kasane
in northern Botswana
This really pleasant lodge is set around 10km south-east of the town in the Kasane Forest Reserve and comprises twenty tented rooms and a central mess under thatch around a large waterhole, where elephants in particular can often be seen drinking.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari and motorboat safari, which are operated in the Chobe Northern Waterfront
area, around 40 minutes drive away, where the wildlife viewing can be prodigious during the Jun/Oct dry season.
On the downside, this area experiences some of the worst safari traffic in Africa. The volume of vehicles lined up to get into the reserve each morning in high season can be very depressing and the limited road network does little to disperse vehicles. The quality of the sightings can therefore be exceedingly poor.
It is a similar story out on the river, where the wonderful experience of watching families of elephants snorkelling through the water is often ruined by the uncontrolled motorboat traffic that emerges from Kasane.
However the lodge does a pretty good job of avoiding the worst of this traffic, typically travelling the safari routes and going out onto the river at specific times, largely in the middle of the day when everyone else is back at base having lunch and a siesta. This fact alone bumps up the rating for the lodge enormously, traffic is the critical factor in this area.SeasonsPricesTrips
