represents both the best and the worst of Etosha National Park
On the upside, the main pan itself and surrounding waterholes can provide superb wildlife spectacles, with a huge range of animals in at water together and often providing some dramatic interaction.
The main downside is the volume and tonality of the vehicle traffic within the park, with fleets of self-drive sedan cars and air-conditioned coaches flocking from one waterhole to the next. A gorgeous waterhole can very quickly be turned into a rather soiled and disturbing drive-thru experience, with vehicles coming and going, music playing, people getting in and out of their vehicles. It can often feel more like one of those artificial safari parks that they build on other continents than the real thing.
Furthermore the only accommodation is in three enormous parks authority restcamps, each of which can host literally hundreds of visitors, in accommodation that ranges from avenues of self-catering bungalows to broad municipal campgrounds.SeasonsAccommodationTrips
