is located 55km to the west of the international airport on Mahe in the Seychelles
This beautiful little island, just 1.5km in diameter, is comprised of granite hills, indigenous hardwood forests and coconut plantations, surrounded by white-sand beaches and fringed by coral reefs.
There is also a resident population of giant tortoises.
The island was a popular pirate haunt during the latter part of the 17th century and stories persist of yet to be discovered treasure.
Around 1950 the island was turned over to the production of vegetables, fruit, coffee, vanilla and poultry for the markets on Mahe, but in recent years all traces of this agriculture have been removed and the island returned to its natural state, although the island does remain slightly scarred by a substantial harbour.Fregate Island Lodge
