Fugitive's Guest House
is located in the Battlefields
area of Natal Central
in South Africa
Set in a private reserve overlooking the historic battlefields of both Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift, Fugitive's Guest House is a slightly lower cost annex to the better known Fugitive's Drift
, the lodge which first popularised the concept of visiting these historic areas.
The lodge itself provides a comfortable and characterful base, tastefully packed with memorabilia from the time of the Anglo-Zulu Wars, plus a decent swimming pool. Guest accommodation is in a several pleasant rooms set in simple single storey outbuildings.
Established by legendary guide David Rattray, the lodge takes guests on intelligent, inspirational and emotional guided tours of the sites. Specially tailored tours can be arranged for children under 12 years. Other excursions include a visit to Mangeni Falls, plus various options for hiking and horse-riding.
The main potential downsides at Fugitive's Guest House are the high prices, the relatively simplicity of some aspects of the lodge and the relatively difficult access, you will most likely need to be doing a long self-drive through Natal in order to include this in your trip.
