Garonga Safari Camp
is located in the Makalali Reserve
in the Kruger Private Reserves
area in the Northeast
of South Africa
Set in a very lovely position alongside a seasonal river in the north of the reserve, Garonga Safari Camp is a stylish little place centred around a thatched main building with wooden decks and a swimming pool overlooking a waterhole. Guest accommodation is in just six luxurious tents. Unusually the lodge is owner run, service levels are very high, the camp has an unusually authentic bush atmosphere and prices are very keen.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari and walking safari, a range of spa treatments, plus the option for baths and sleep-outs out in the bush. Wildlife viewing in this Makalali area is reasonably reliable year round, since it is fully fenced. Visitor densities in this area are pleasantly low and the level of guiding here is also very strong. There is also the option for microlight safari in the area.
The main potential downsides relate to this Makalali Reserve, which is fully fenced and very much detached from the rest of Kruger. We also find that the proximity of overhead telephone cables and road signs do detract significantly from the sense of wilderness, although that is true of most parts of Kruger.
As with all lodges in the area, there is the potential for adverse weather conditions Nov/Mar. Also, as with almost all the lodges in this area, different groups of guests are joined together on safari activities, unless you pre-book a private vehicle at significant additional cost. SeasonsPrices
