... is located in the Masvingo Province, south of the Eastern Highlands and along border with Mozambique in the remote south-east of Zimbabwe.

The reserve was formed in 1975 by combing a number of tsetse fly control corridors and former hunting areas. During both the Rhodesian and Mozambique civil war the park was closed to the public and reopened in 1994 as part of the Great Limpopo Trans-Frontier Park.

One of the great draws to Gonarezhou National Park is the fact it is well off the main tourist routes and attracts very few visitors. As a consequence the park has a really wild feel.

Singita Pamushana Lodge, situated in the adjacent Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve, is the standout accommodation options, a very upmarket place which is usually accessed by air.

Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge is another excellent option, but one which can be very difficult to build into the majority of trips.
