Gondwana Tented Camp
is located close to Mossel Bay in the Garden Route area of the Western Cape in South Africa.

At 110 square kilometres, the Gondwana Game Reserve is one of the most substantial wildlife reserves in this area. It is a very scenic area of open valleys and undulating hills set against a backdrop of distant mountains. Much of this area was farmed and the present owners have done a great deal of re-wildification work, with the removal of invasive plants and restoration of the indigenous fynbos vegetation. The area has been fenced and stocked with a wide range of animals including (lions, buffaloes, elephants, rhinos, leopards, elands, giraffes, hippos, cheetahs and zebras.

The reserve contains four safari lodges, around a dozen self-catering villas and five residential areas with private houses.

Tucked away in a small valley on the western side of the reserve, Gondwana Tented Camp is a relatively upmarket facility which offers the best 'big five' wildlife experience on the Garden Route and, being in a non-malarial, is particularly attractive for families with small children.

The camp is centred on a modest canvas building containing the bar, lounge and dining areas, leading out to a small swimming pool. Guest accommodation is in a total of 7 very pleasant tented rooms.

Activities are centred on vehicle safari and hiking on the property, including special programmes for young children. Back at the lodge spa treatments area available, whilst further afield there are options for golf, whale-watching, surfing and palaeontology at the famous Mossel Bay sea caves.

The main potential downside is the lack of a sense of wilderness due to the reserve being fenced, stocked, surrounded by farmland and busy with development.
