Haggard's Hilldrop

... also known as Haggards on Hilldrop, is located near the town of Newcastle in the Battlefields area of Natal Central in South Africa.

Set back from the main road on top of a small hill, this colonial manor is famous for being the home of Sir Rider Haggard, author of King Solomon's Mines. Public areas are contained in the original farmhouse, but the 29 rooms are in rather less inspiring wooden units in the grounds. There is a nice pool.

Haggard's Hilldrop is a reasonable stopover for self-drivers needing to break their journey.
