The
Hibiscus Coast
runs southwest from the city of Durban to the southern border of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa.

The coast is named after the sub-tropical shrub which flowers here in abundance.

It is lined by an endless string of generally uninspiring settlements with cosy English names such as Margate and Southport, dominated by retirement and holiday homes developments, many of which get jam-packed with domestic holidaymakers during the season.

The suburban nature of the area means that it tends to of little interest to most international visitors, especially in contrast with the stunning open landscapes of the Wild Coast immediately to the south and the even more interesting Elephant Coast 100km northeast of Durban.
