Although there are parts of the three main islands in the Seychelles which do feel a little more remote, nowhere compares with the blissful isolation of the smaller islands, all of which are virtually uninhabited and around a dozen of which are home to just one lodge. These are the tropical island paradises for which the country is so well known ...

North Island ... is situated 45km northwest of the international airport on Mahe, from where it is accessed by helicopter. It is home to the most upmarket accommodation in the Seychelles at the fabulous but very pricey North Island Lodge.

Fregate Island ... is situated 55km east of the international airport on Mahe, from where it is accessed by light aircraft. It is home to another very upmarket accommodation options, the similarly pricey Fregate Island Lodge.

Cousine Island ... is situated 50km north of the international airport on Mahe and just five kilometres southwest of Praslin, from where it is accessed by boat. It is home to the fabulous, tiny and very exclusive Cousine Island Lodge.

Denis Island ... is situated 105km north of the international airport on Mahe, from where it is accessed by light aircraft. It is home to the slightly simpler, more moderately priced, but still highly rated Denis Island Lodge.

Bird Island ... is situated 110km north of the international airport on Mahe, from where it is accessed by light aircraft. It is home to the unusually simple and remarkably low cost Bird Island Lodge.

Silhouette Island ... is situated 45km northwest of the international airport on Mahe, from where it is accessed by boat or helicopter. It is home to the rather large and commercial, but reliable and relatively low cost Hilton Labriz Resort.

Sainte Anne Island ... is situated just 4km north of the international airport on Mahe, from where it is accessed by boat. It therefore feel considerably less remote and magical than most of the other islands listed here. It is home to the rather large and commercial, but reliable and relatively upmarket Sainte Anne Resort.

Cerf Island ... is situated just 2km north of the international airport on Mahe, from where it is accessed by boat. It therefore feel considerably less remote and magical than most of the other islands listed here. It is home to a handful or rather modest accommodation options.

Long Island ... is situated just 3km north of the international airport on Mahe, from where it is accessed by boat. It therefore feel considerably less remote and magical than most of the other islands listed here. There is presently has no accommodation on the island, although there do appear to be plans in the pipeline.

Aride Island ... is situated 62km north of the international airport on Mahe and 10km north of Prasin, from where it is accessed by boat. The island has no permanent settlement and no guest accommodation.

Curieuse Island ... is situated 55km north of the international airport on Mahe and 2km west of Prasin, from where it is accessed by boat. The island is a national park, has no permanent settlement and no guest accommodation, but can be visited on day-trips.

Cousin Island ... is situated 50km north of the international airport on Mahe and 3km west of Prasin, from where it is accessed by boat. The island is a national park, has no permanent settlement and no guest accommodation, but can be visited on day-trips.
