... the capital of Uganda, is situated on rolling hills around 10km to the north of Lake Victoria.

Before the arrival of the British, this are was the local chief's favourite hunting ground, an area particularly rich in antelope species. The name Kampala is a corruption of the local name 'Hill of the Impalas'.

Today it is a typical modern African city, with a population of around two million people, centred on a district of high-rise buildings and bustling streets which fan out through a chaos of suburbs to the surrounding shanties.

There are various sites of historic interest in the town, but none which of sufficient interest to attract many visitors.
