Karen Blixen Cottages
is located in the Nairobi
area of central Kenya
Situated in the historic and relatively upmarket suburb of Karen, around 10km to the south-west of the city centre, this place is just around the corner from the Karen Blixen House, which is now a museum. In fact the main building of the hotel used to be home to the famous settler's farm manager.
The hotel has a large restaurant, sports bar and coffee garden which caters largely for non-residents. Guest accommodation is in a dozen tin-roofed cottages around the back. There is also a small spa and gym.
Activities include trips to the Langatta Giraffe Sanctuary and the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, which are both close by.
The main potential downsides are that the place does feel a little bit like a bar and restaurant with rooms out the back, rather than a fully fledged lodge. It is also not particularly convenient for the city centre, should you have the need for repeated visits there.ActivitiesSeasonsTrips
