Situated on the 90 square kilometre Kariega fenced reserve on the Boesmans River, 8km inland from the seaside village of Kenton on Sea. It contains a mix of landscapes which are truly beautiful, but polluted in parts by the presence of fences, nearby farms and a main road which cuts right through the middle. There is a good range of wildlife, including free-roaming rhinos, elephants and lions.
Set alone in the preferred western sector of the reserve, this original old homestead is available for rental to private groups of up to eight guests in four rooms. There are lovely lounge areas and a decent pool in a pretty garden. The rental include a chef and private guide.
Activities include vehicle safari, walking, cycling, boating and canoeing, as well as boat trips down to the beach at Kenton-on-Sea.
- fenced reserve
- proximity to human habitation
- only accessible from the main road
- reclaimed farmland
- large corporate feel
- crossing the main road whilst on game drive
- several access gates within the park
Kariega Homestead is by far our favourite option on the reserve, comparable in price with the other lodges if you have four or five in your group, cheaper if you have more. Having a private safari vehicle is also such a big positive.
