Karongwe Reserve
is located in the Kruger Private Reserves area of the Kruger National Park in the Northeast of South Africa.

Situated in the far west of the Lowveld, between the towns of Hoedspruit and Tzaneen, this fenced reserve comprises approximately 90 square kilometres of gently undulating Lowveld acacia scrub, set against the distant backdrop of the Mpumulanga Drakensberg escarpment and centred on the seasonal Makhutswi river.

It contains a full range of animals and wildlife viewing is good year round, since being a fenced reserve, the animals are not free to migrate.

Of the eight lodges on the reserve, most are under the same ownership, including ...

Kuname River Lodge ... is an intimate and relatively comfortable place with accommodation in just five pleasant guest chalets.

Kuname Manor House ... is a reasonably stylish safari house which can be booked by private groups of up to six guests in three rooms.

Chisomo Safari Camp ... is a larger and more commercial lodge with 22 guest tents.

Karongwe River Lodge ... is a reasonably pleasant lodge with guests accommodation in eleven large cabins.

Indlovu River Lodge ... is a rather simple and old-fashioned place, largely aimed at domestic self-catering guests.

The following lodge is under separate ownership ...

Makutsi Safari Springs ... is a rather unique place because it specialises in long stays, typically of one to six weeks duration, something which we do find rather appealing.
