is located in the Katavi
area in the western
region of Tanzania
It is a high specification permanent option set in the very remote Katavi National Park, an area which claims to have the highest bio-density of any reserve in Africa and boasts some some unique and awesome animal sights, including vast herds of buffaloes, incredible hippo pools and tunnelling crocodiles. A real holy grail for safari aficionados, with extremely low visitor numbers. It is a comfortable lodge with a swimming pool and six guest tents.
Activities include vehicle safari, walking safari and bush meals. Wildlife viewing is at its strongest during the Jun/Nov dry season, whilst the reserve remains a beautiful place to visit during the converse Dec/Mar green season.
The main potential downsides at Katuma Camp are that it is quite pricey, its design is rather heavy and its position is slightly impaired by having the road in front of the tents. Guests are often asked to share safari vehicles. The park itself has a relatively small sweet spot and is traversed by a significant road.UpsidesDownsidesSeasonsPricesTrips
