is a pleasant little town more or less marks the boundary between the rather dull ranchland of the Northcentral Namibia
and the wilder landscapes to the west.
There is little in the town to delay most visitors, the large football stadium seems to be the only significant landmark.
Nevertheless a good number of self-drivers pass through this way since it is on the main C39/C35 route between Etosha
Arriving into Khorixas from the east along the sealed C39, it is not immediately apparent that there is some quite dramatic scenery just to the south. The broad stepped canyon of the upper Ugab is quite impressive in parts, most notably around Vingerklip Lodge
Heading west from Khorixas the C39 quickly become dirt and the scenery improves dramatically once the road starts to descend the escarpment.
However there are no particularly strong accommodation options in the area, so we usually advise pressing on to Twyfelfontein
