Kisoro Travellers Rest

... is located in the Kisoro and Mgahinga area of southwest Uganda.

Situated in the town of Kisoro, this traditional little hotel was built in the 1950's by gorilla conservationist Walter Baumgartel and was the original base for gorilla tracking expeditions into the nearby mountains, playing host to a range of eminent guests.

Taken into government ownership during the Amin era, the hotel is now back in private hands and is much restored. There are just 8 rooms set in pleasant gardens close to the centre of the town.

Kisoro Travellers Rest is a simple but characterful and atmospheric an lower cost alternative worthy of consideration, especially if you are only in transit through the area.
