Kuilfontein Stable Cottages
is located near the town of Colesberg
in the Central
region of South Africa
Colesberg was widely known to early European settlers for the distinctive rock outcrop known as Cole's Kop, which can be seen for many miles in this largely featureless Karoo landscape. These days the town is an agricultural centre renowned in particular for sheep farming and race-horse breeding. It is commonly used as an overnight stopover as it lies on the N1 midway between Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Set 12km southwest of town off the main N1 highway, Kuilfontein Stable Cottages is a fabulous Cape Dutch farmstead which has been in the same family since 1875. Lounge and dining areas are in the main house, with guest accommodation in 8 rooms in the old stable block.
