Kuname River Lodge
is located in the Karongwe Reserve
in the Kruger
area to the Northeast
of South Africa
+ excellent riverside location
+ large private reserve
+ important conservation project
+ full range of wildlife
+ small intimate lodge
+ highly professional owners
+ excellent staff service
+ possible to avoid visitor traffic
+ cheetah tracking on foot
Situated alongside the seasonal Makhutswi River to the south of the reserve, this rather stylish little lodge has elegant public areas leading out to pretty campfire and pool areas. Guest accommodation is in five pleasant guest chalets ranged along the riverbank.
Activities are centred on vehicle safari and walking safari within the reserve.
- fenced reserve
- proximity to human habitation
- proximity to other accommodation
- only accessible from the main R40 road
- reclaimed farmland
- not particularly wild
- reasonably expensive
- high visitor traffic
- no private vehicle
On the downside, this is a fenced reserve and right on the western periphery of the Kruger area, which some guests may find subtracts somewhat from the sense of wilderness.
Kuname River Lodge is far higher quality than its price implies, a really decent option which is able to deliver a pretty good safari experience.
