Laikipia Wilderness Camp
is located in the Laikipia North
area of north-central Kenya
Laikipia North is an elevated plateau of arid open range lands and cattle ranches, renowned for their healthy climate. The area is home to a broad range of wildlife, including some of less familiar species which are characteristic of the area, notably including imperial zebras, gerenuks, reticulated giraffes and Somali ostriches. Visitor densities are very low.
Laikipia Wilderness Camp is owned and hosted by a Zimbabwean/English couple, Steve and Annabelle, who previous managed the nearby Sosian
, so know the area inside out. The camp itself is small and intimate, being centred on a modest canvas mess and having guest accommodation in just four large tents.
A wide range of activities includes vehicle safari, walking safari, hiking, night vehicle safari, river tubing and rock climbing. Overnight bivouac camping is also possible.
The main potential downsides are the fact that the greater area is largely reclaimed farmland, there is a significant amount of human habitation around and off-road driving is not permitted.PricesTrips
