Lake Malawi

... or Lake Niassa as it is know on this side, has at least 200km of its eastern shoreline within the Northwest region of Mozambique.

The northern portion of that waterfront is a relatively remote and unpopulated area of mountainous forest and gentle shamba farmlands, extremely inconvenient to access from the rest of the country. Just 5km offshore lies the well known Kaya Mawa Lodge on Likoma Island, which is actually a part of Malawi and is relatively easily accessed by light aircraft charter from Lilongwe.

The lodges in this area therefore tend to be accessed by air from the west and included in trips with other lodges in Malawi and Zambia.

Nkwichi Lodge ... is the standout option in the area, a a wonderfully remote little hideaway, set in a 600 square kilometre nature reserve.
