Lake Natron
is an area of remarkable wild landscapes in Northern Tanzania.

Although the area contains some of the finest scenery in the whole of Africa and despite its proximity to the Serengeti, Lake Natron remains way off the beaten track. The main highlights include the fabulous ascent of the active volcano Ol Donyo Lengai, flamingos out on the vast soda lake, swimming in the waterfalls and interaction with the local Maasai people.

The main potential downsides are that Lake Natron takes many hours to get to along some pretty rough roads, it does not offer a strong wildlife experience, the choice of accommodation down here is extremely limited, it can get very hot around the lake, historically there has been a risk of banditry in the area and that as the roads slowly get improved there is likely to be an upturn in traffic.
