Loisaba Koija Starbeds
is located in the Laikipia North
area of north-central Kenya
Laikipia North is an elevated plateau of arid range-lands which are renowned for their healthy climate. The area is home to a broad range of wildlife, including some of less familiar species which are characteristic of the area, notably including imperial zebras, gerenuks, reticulated giraffes and Somali ostriches. Visitor densities are very low.
Loisaba is a 250 square kilometre private ranch on the west bank of the Ewaso Ngiro river, containing five accommodation options.
Set down on the river, Loisaba Koija Starbeds is a lovely little camp with simple public areas and just three guest rooms, each with a novelty bed that can be rolled out so guests can sleep under the stars. We particularly like the fact that if rain comes during the night, the staff will try to roll your bed back under cover without waking you up.
Activities include vehicle safari, walking safari, camel riding, quad-biking mountain biking and ballooning.
The main potential downsides are the fact that the greater area is largely reclaimed farmland, there is a significant amount of human habitation around, the wildlife densities are relatively low and off-road driving is not permitted.
