Loisaba Tented Camp
is located in the Laikipia North
area of north-central Kenya
Loisaba is a 250 square kilometre private ranch high on the Laikipia Plateau and cascading down to the west bank of the Ewaso Ngiro River. The landscape is largely undulating acacia scrub, with patches of thicker woodlands in the folds and riverine forest along the river. It is home to a good range of wildlife and is another good example of tourism-financed conservation.
Set on top of a prominent hill, Loisaba Tented Camp is the flagship facility on the reserve, with elegant open-sided central areas under canvas, leading out to decks and a nice swimming pool. Guest accommodation is in just six very pleasant tented suites.
Activities include vehicle safari, walking safari, camel safari, horse-back safari and mountain bike safari and cultural visits to the local Samburu people, as well visits to anti-poaching units with their sniffer dogs.
The main potential downsides are that the area is partially fenced and therefore not completely wild and that the lodge price is quite high, but not exceptionally so.
