Mabira Rainforest Lodge
is located in the town of Jinja
in eastern Uganda
Situated 15km to the west of Jinja, Mabira Forest is one of the few significant patches of indigenous forest remaining in this part of Uganda.
The lodge is set deep within the smaller section of the forest which lies to the south of the main Kampala to Jinja road.
The close foliage makes this a very atmospheric place. Public areas are pleasant enough, leading out onto a pool and sauna area, but the highlight is perhaps the 12 cosy guest cottages.
The main activity is guided walks in the forest with the resident naturalist, with 100 bird species including the grey parrot, three primate species and a plethora of butterflies and insects.
Mabira Rainforest Lodge is a very peaceful backwater which attracts a reasonably good level of guest feedback. An excellent choice for birders in search of local endemics or for residents of Kampala in search of a convenient weekend hideaway.
